Christmas Gifts For The Elderly

The disabled and elderly never cease to amaze me

Last week when I attended an elderly client who has a brain injury, I was amazed she had been out shopping and bought all these odd items – well, odd I thought at first.  Here there were new toothbrushes with protecting heads, toothbrush containers, soap, soap containers, face washers, gifts, tissues, scissors, compacts, assorted bandaids, christmas gifts, dog food, dog bowls, dog toys – you name it, it was there!  When I inquired as to what all the gifts were for, she calmly replied that she was going to give this to the homeless on our streets for Christmas.  She said she saw on television that many of the homeless also have dogs, so she wanted to help them too.  I asked my client what I could do for her, and she excitedly said she needed boxes to put all the gifts in!!  So after investigating I found a friend who had heaps of boxes she has from cotton thread orders.  My client was ecstatic as she carefully sorted out males from females and how to evenly share the gifts.  A true meaning of the Christmas spirit.  Imagine if each one of us donated one thing to our homeless at this time of year.
